Reading Gifts for Kids: 20 Great Gifts for Bookworms

Reading Gifts for Kids are a wonderful way to slip in some educational fun for birthday or Christmas gifts.

I was the kid who went everywhere with a book in my hand, and I still LOVE to read! It is important to me to foster that same love of reading in my own children and so far I have two big kids who love to read and three little ones who love being read to. I feel like creating the right reading environment, providing kids with books they love, and making reading a rewarding experience can turn any child into a bookworm.

Whether you have a struggling reader you want to encourage or need reading gifts for kids who already love reading, here are ideas for your little bookworms!

Reading Gifts for Kids that create a comfortable  reading spot

Reading is so much better in a comfortable place! Ideally, this would involve sand and sun for me, but for kids, just having their own dedicated “reading chair” can go a long way!

We bought these Big Joe beanbags for my kids 2 Christmases ago. They are great!  These beanbags are comfortable to sit in, lightweight, with a pocket to hold books on the side and a handle for easy transport. The Amazon reviews mention the only problem we’ve had…the beans get smooshed by bigger kids!  My (very tall and big) teenager son’s bag lost most of its shape in year 2. But they do sell these replacement beans (which I am putting in my Amazon cart right now!) The durability of the actual bean bag is top-notch, no rips at the seams or spilling out beans.

My daughter got a hanging seat hammock and a stand like this one and she loves to curl up inside and read. This comes in many colors and is super cute in a room.

This pillow lounger would be so much fun to gift readers of any size. You put 5 King Sized Pillows inside of this product (NOT INCLUDED) so make sure you consider this extra cost. This has great reviews and comes in very cute colors for boys and girls.

You could also purchase a tent that could be a bibliophile dream gift! This would make a comfortable, dedicated reading nook.

This Chevron Tent is ADORABLE has a padded floor and could be used for girls or boys. It also has amazing reviews!

You could also purchase this rocket ship tent.

Or this princess tent would be great for a little girl’s reading nook.

You can also make reading for kids more comfortable and enjoyable by adding a fuzzy blanket.

This blanket is fuzzy and RAINBOW and great gifts for little girls who love to read.

This soft blanket has glow in the dark stars, awesome!

If you are feeling crafty you can follow my DIY Quillow blanket instructions.. This is a frugal and fast gift idea that makes a blanket that can transform into a pillow!

You can also encourage reading by making books organized and easy for kids to access.
I love these sling bookshelves and this one has a print that could work for boys or girls.

You could install these floating bookshelves low enough for kids to reach!

Smaller Reading Gifts for Kids

A smaller gift idea for kids who love to read is a reading light.

I love that this reading light is rechargeable!

This cat light is also an adorable reading gift for kids.

If you have a child who has to read a certain amount of minutes each day for school, this bookmark/reading timer would be a useful gift (especially for mom!)

Tech Reading Gifts for Kids

If you have an avid reader I highly recommend purchasing Amazon Kindles Kid Version. Seriously, these are an amazing investment for kids who love to read. We have two kids basic kindles and one Kindle Paperwhite (more expensive, but backlit for easier night reading) and they are constantly in use in our house. Another surprising benefit is that we have saved money by not having library fines! been an amazing cost saver for me!  If you didn’t know this already, most libraries offer eBook versions on their website. Once you have it set up, it is incredibly easy to find and “borrow” eBooks onto your Kindle. It actually works right through Amazon with our library!  I can’t tell you how amazing it is to get a book right when my kids want or need it.   Now, you can get the fancier Amazon Fire tablet for about the same price. The Fire is a color screen and you have the ability to download apps. For my older kids I prefer the Kindle so that I know when they are on it, it is straight reading. The Kindle is also made for reading so it is easier on their eyes and super easy to turn pages.  My kids’ teachers also allow them to bring a Kindle to school to read during their extra time and would not allow a Fire Tablet.

Really, my kids use their Kindles all the time, they can get library books on them, and they are portable and easy to use. I highly recommend them!
